There was something in the air as I walked into Metroflex Gym tonight. I stood outside in line and noticed that there were twice as many people gathered as there usually is. That's a really good sign. There were even more people inside, and I'm thinking that pretty soon that tiny gym in Bedford, Texas is not going to be able to hold all of MPX's rabid fans if they keep rising in popularity. They might have to start looking for bigger digs.
I grabbed a seat in the second row and awaited the phenomenal show that the good people at MPX Wrestling always put on. While I won't give you a match by match review, I will say that the three matches that stood out to me the most were Scott Murdoch vs Andy Dalton in a Last Man Standing Bull Rope match, Li Fang against Frankie Fisher, and the main event of Gregory James vs Barrett Brown for the MPX Championship.

Two weeks ago, Mike Foxx and Kanoa had a drag out Loser Leaves Town Street Fight that was beyond anything I had seen in years. Never in a million years did I think we'd get to see another match with similar brutality. Then Andy Dalton had his Bull Rope match against Scott Murdoch. MPX would be changed forever! The match started hot and heavy, just like any match involving Scott Murdoch does. The bull rope came into play several times, and the two guys duked it out like their lives were at stake.
I turned to my friend and told him "This match is great, but it'll never live up to Foxx vs Kanoa!" Then, it happened... Andy Dalton got busted open. While bleeding in a match is something that in today's wrestling is rather passe, at one point it meant that a match had reached its highest plateau. Then, promotions like ECW came around and bleeding in a match became as regular as a hip toss. A few years later it was gone from the industry almost completely. When Dalton bled I was shocked to see his crimson mask. While I was never an advocate for blood in a match, I do say that it adds to the seriousness and the savageness of certain types of matches. After more fighting Scott Murdoch was finally able to put Andy Dalton down. Everyone in the audience who truly understood and loved the passion that wrestlers put in day in and day out, stood and applauded Dalton as he was lead to the backstage area after the match.
Li Fang is a great wrestler, and while he is a bad guy, he does have a small following among the MPX faithful. The man is good enough and has enough charisma that he'll eventually garner an even bigger crowd of fans. His match tonight against Frankie Fisher proved why Li Fang needs to be considered for main event championship material. The fact that he's managed by one Nigel Rabid only boosts his character. Nigel, the Englishman who knows just how to get under a crowd's skin, is the perfect foil for any guy who thinks he is going to get over easily on Mr. Li Fang.
I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't that big of a fan of Barrett Brown. Maybe it was my ignorance, but I just didn't get it. Then I saw him tonight against Gregory James, who I think has a bright future ahead of him, and I got it. I understand now why he's so popular. Barrett Brown can put on a great match, and maybe it was the fact that he was up against James, but tonight the main event was a flawless masterpiece. The end came when James capitalized on a distraction (I forgot how the distraction came about), stole the camerawoman's camera (who also happens to be Barrett's mom), and pinned Mr. Brown for a victory. Gregory James is the new MPX champion.
If you're in the area I suggest you try to make it out to these shows every now and then. The best thing about MPX Wrestling is that the shows end in such a way that it leaves you wanting more. It's almost as if you HAVE to come to the next show to find out what happens next.
